Disposing of Old ATV Tires

Posted on: December 24, 2011

Disposing of old ATV tiresGetting new tires for your ATV is something that one has to do regularly, just like with any other machine. Disposing of ATV tires is a bit more difficult though and a lot of people don’t know what to do with them once they’re replaced with new ones. It goes without saying that throwing them away is not OK and it’s even illegal in many places. Rubber is not exactly a material that recycles itself. Whenever you want to get rid of your old ATV tires, make sure you do it in a way that is legal in your area and make sure that you respect the environment.

ATV tires are usually recycled when they’re no longer usable and companies then make other products from them. They might become a carpet, a park bench or anything else made from rubber. If you want to get rid of some tires, contact a recycling company in your area and ask if they take rubber. Either by using online searches or a phonebook, you should have no problem finding a place that recycles and accepts rubber.

Another possibility is to give your tires to the store that offers you the new ATV tires. A lot of them will take them off your hands, some free, while others will request a small fee to dispose of them. Ideally, you should know what they do with the old tires, so you can make sure that they are recycles or disposed of in a way that is friendly to the environment.

Depending on the state where you are located, there might be certain fees and rules regarding the disposal of tires, so make sure you look up this information.

If there is still the possibility that the old tires are usable and they’re not completely gone, you might want to give them away instead, so they can be used by someone else that has an ATV.
